Hello there, welcome to The Cosmic Photo Challenge, I hope you’re all ok and haven’t been blown away by storm Bert, which wreaked havoc across the UK at the weekend.
It certainly made a fine excuse not to leave the house for a couple of days, so I stayed; In my warm place.
When the weather is horrible and it’s cozy indoors, there’s nothing like curling up with a book and a cup of coffee while listening to good music, or even making some.
So along with catching up on the search for Stephen King’s Dark Tower in the company of Ms Hepburn and Mr Bowie, I composed a new tune to complement the meteorological conditions.
Where did you snuggle up at the weekend..?

Hello there, welcome to a bank holiday edition of The Cosmic Photo Challenge, which is inspired by Friday’s prompt; Out in the country.
My trip out to take pictures yesterday wasn’t very well timed, as the weather was just starting to turn (from the glorious sunshine we were treated to all day Saturday) to grey mist and the threat of rain.
Nevertheless, I managed to capture a lot of verdant greenery on the country lanes outside Barnstaple, as the land rises up towards the edge of Exmoor.
And, as a bonus, here’s an effects-laden video I made from a timelapse of my journey home yesterday.
Now let’s see your countryside views…

Hello there, the very best of Mondays to you. Today on The Cosmic Photo Challenge we’re turning our attention upwards again, because this week; The sky’s the limit.
There are a lot of fabulously fluffy cloud formations around at the moment, which have combined rather nicely with a vapour trail in one of my shots. In fact it made such a nice shot, I used it for the cover art on my latest EP*, which you can check out by clicking on the photo in question, or at this link.
What did you see up in the great blue yonder at the weekend?

Speaking of new music, here’s another brand spanking new audio visual project I finished just yesterday. I couldn’t begin to guess what musical genre you’d fit this into, but I’ve called it Return Of The Malevolent Seven and it’s a bit of an epic.
Hello there, welcome to this week’s special bank holiday Monday multimedia bonus edition of The Cosmic Photo Challenge, which today is inspired by the prompt; I’ll see you in the trees.
Our run of extraordinarily fine weather in the UK continued right through the weekend, so early yesterday morning I took tranquil walk around Venn Quarry Woods in the already warm summer sunshine.
You, too can enjoy a moment of peace and quiet in this woodland wonderland, complete with relaxing birdsong, via the embedded Instagram player below.
I had quite a musical weekend (what with the release ofmy new album of original material), including making this glitchy electronica audio-visual piece, incorporating the birds of Venn Quarry Woods on vocals.
I’m sure you have some tree-mendous photos to fit the bill, so why not join in, it couldn’t be easier…

Hi there, I hope you’ve all had a good weekend and are ready for The Cosmic Photo Challenge, which this week is based around the prompt; Out in the country.
I’ve had a fairly creative couple of days (the result of which can be seen on Return Of The Internet Nobody) and in the process of making the audio visual treats you’ll find over there, I had an idea…
Having shot a long video of a drive in the country (with the camera in a windscreen-mounted holder, safety fans), I realised I could use the frame capture feature to produce photos for today’s challenge.
These were edited for artistic effect, partly because some of them were a little blurred, but they came out surprisingly well.

Just because I could, I shot a timelapse video of the return journey, shrinking the 20 minute drive down to 35 seconds. This worked fine, but it was very fast and I decided to slow it down with one of my video editing apps, which I noticed had a new “smooth slo-mo” button and I do love a gadget, so…well, of course I tried it.
Now, the feature is supposed to reduce or remove the jerky effect you sometimes get when slowing video right down, by artificially transitioning the frames more smoothly from one to the next.
But the poor old software doesn’t know I’ve given it a timelapse video to smooth out, with maybe a hundred yards traveled in between each individual photo, so it tries as hard as it possibly can to streeeeeeeetchh each frame and join them up.
The resulting warping, concertina effect immediately brought to mind a “boing” noise, so I quickly added an appropriate soundtrack and voila!
What did you capture in the countryside this week?

Hello there, welcome to a rather unusual edition of The Cosmic Photo Challenge, today themed around the extremely loose prompt; Indoor freestyle.
It was a strange week last week; having tested positive for Covid on Monday morning I was in isolation until yesterday evening, when I finally tested negative, although I am still feeling a bit below par. Which is all the explanation you’re getting for me having deviated slightly on my own challenge.
Since I was trapped in the flat all week, I did what I usually do to amuse myself and made some new musical creations, one of which you can experience right here, accompanied by my…photographic contribution.
The video you see below is made using only a two minute clip of me wandering around the living room and kitchen with my phone, filming anything and everything at peculiar angles, all of which then had layers and layers of effects applied to them and voila!
{Best watched in HD. Contains flashing images}
Normal service will be resumed next week, but in the meantime, let’s see what the more sensible of you produced over the weekend.

Another week dawns and another edition of The Cosmic Photo Challenge rises from the ashes of the weekend to brighten your Monday.
Good morning everyone, I hope your day is going well so far and you’re ready to face the challenge of the prompt; Woodland winter.
I took a very pleasant, if slightly soggy walk, through the woods around the soon to be developed Venn Quarriesjust outside Barnstaple.
The river was pretty swollen by the recent heavy rain and I managed to capture a few long exposure shots of the swirly currents, giving the water an ethereal, misty effect, along with some super slo-mo clips of waterfalls, which you can see in the short video tour below.
ended up with too many shots to choose between, so I have posted the entire gallery on my other blog and you can see them allHERE}
Now it’s time to see images of your own winter woodland wonderlands, I can’t wait to see what you have for us.

Good morning, welcome to the final installment of The Cosmic Photo Challenge for 2021, I hope you all had a lovely time over the festive weekend and are ready to; Show us your Christmas.
I have gone completely over the top with my closing contribution for the year, by creating a multimedia extravaganza for your viewing and listening pleasure.
I spent a considerable amount of time over the last few days composing, producing, editing and mixing an epic wall of sound masterpiece, which then of course required a suitably extraordinary video to accompany it. But what could I use for the raw material..?
We had a split celebration this year, as Rhonda was working a twelve hour shift on the 25th; so Audrey and I had Christmas Day part one on our own. She opened gifts from a friend in America, we watched a movie with homemade popcorn and had a lazy day filled with food and the sound of Audrey talking to her new friend, Alexa.
We did Christmas properly on Boxing Day, when Rhonda had a rare couple of days off, complete with a second burst of presents, all the food, crackers, silly hats and yes, even a Christmas jumper…
Anyway, I’d taken this 18 second timelapse of Audrey disemboweling her first batch of presents…
…which I thought would make as good a starting point as any for my video editing project.
So, after many, many hours of layering, FX, more layering, more editing, more FX and even more layering, that 18 seconds of my daughter making a mess with wrapping paper turned into the mind-bending, eyeball-popping, trance-inducing epic which appears in the player below.
{Nothing else apart from that initial short clip was involved in the creation of the final product, only my excessive use of mucking about and digital fiddling}
This and the original version of my track, Aypeks, will soon be available for purchase on my Bandcamp profile, but for now, turn up the volume and strap yourselves in for the Extreme Funk Makeover Mix.
Enjoy.
Now let’s see what you did over the holidays…
