The Cosmic Photo Challenge: Pick a shape.

Hi there, I hope you had a good weekend, now there’s just the small matter of The Cosmic Photo Challenge to attend to, before you plunge headlong into another Monday.

This week your mission was to; Pick a shape.

Any shape will do, as long as it somehow informs your choice of pictures, whether that’s by subject matter or design.

I decided to go with circles, using two separate layouts to create my images; a random selection of circular household objects for one; and some records from my collection, chosen for their colourful vinyl (and a small rug), for the other.

The Cosmic Photo Challenge: The best of ’22.

Only two more prompts for The Cosmic Photo Challenge to go this year, so I thought it was time for us to review; The best of ’22.

So it’s time to blow our own trumpets, showcase our best bits, play favourites and glow with inner pride as we look back at some of the images we were especially pleased with over the last twelve months.

These could be photos you’ve already shared as part of the challenge, or maybe you’ve never taken part before and have hundreds to choose from!

Maybe you didn’t have room in previous challenges or you just have pictures from this year which deserve our attention, well then now’s your chance to shine.

My personal criteria for inclusion of my images in today’s post was more…esoteric, shall we say, in that mine were chosen as part of the creative process known technically as “mucking about”.

The Cosmic Photo Challenge: Art for art’s sake.

This week on The Cosmic Photo Challenge we’re getting creative, with the theme; Art for art’s sake.

My avantgarde extravaganza was inspired by this fern fossil we found in a slab of sandstone in the garden.

I’d recently managed to remove a larger section of the top layer of stone, revealing more of the pristine patterns beneath and this photo became the basis for a composition made up of (I think) 19 separate images.

I didn’t have the opportunity to capture anything sinister, so I went for a walk in the rainy woods and messed about with the results in various unsettling ways.

The Cosmic Photo Challenge: In the clouds.

I set the theme of today’s Cosmic Photo Challenge on Friday, thinking it was just the right time of year for all sorts of attractive and interesting formations In the clouds, but it was not to be.

There wasn’t a cloud in the sky all day on Saturday and yesterday it was dull, grey and overcast.

So I did some mucking about instead.

The Cosmic Photo Challenge: On the road.

I have a confession to make; when I set the prompt for this week’s Cosmic Photo Challenge, I already knew I was going to be; On the road.

I returned our American visitor to the airport, very early on Saturday morning, after which I was hoping to catch some impressive sunrise shots on the way home, but it was not to be.

The day dawned grey and foggy, so I had to improvise, eventually deciding to experiment with long exposures of traffic on the motorway.

I took several shots from a footbridge over the M4 and the rest were captured with my phone safely attached to a mount on the windscreen (the unintentional blurring of the backgrounds is due to vibration) but possibly still don’t try this at home. ;~}

Hello again, I hope you all had a pleasant weekend, even if it was as grey and damp as mine. But even when skies are grey, The Cosmic Photo Challenge is here to brighten your Monday, whatever the weather.

Today our theme is Summer collage, because editing is just as much of an art form as photography in its way.

So, I took this panoramic shot on the road to Fremington Quay last week…

…and I added parts of 10 other photos to it, from places I’ve visited this summer, to create this landscape of the imagination.

The Cosmic Photo Challenge; Indoor freestyle.

Hello there, welcome to a rather unusual edition of The Cosmic Photo Challenge, today themed around the extremely loose prompt; Indoor freestyle.

It was a strange week last week; having tested positive for Covid on Monday morning I was in isolation until yesterday evening, when I finally tested negative, although I am still feeling a bit below par. Which is all the explanation you’re getting for me having deviated slightly on my own challenge.

Since I was trapped in the flat all week, I did what I usually do to amuse myself and made some new musical creations, one of which you can experience right here, accompanied by my…photographic contribution.

The video you see below is made using only a two minute clip of me wandering around the living room and kitchen with my phone, filming anything and everything at peculiar angles, all of which then had layers and layers of effects applied to them and voila!

Normal service will be resumed next week, but in the meantime, let’s see what the more sensible of you produced over the weekend.

The Cosmic Photo Challenge: Night and day.

This week’s entry for The Cosmic Photo Challenge took possibly the longest time it’s ever taken to produce a single image, based on the prompt; Night and day.

I had no idea what I was going to do when I set the theme on Saturday and by the time I’d worked out how to get the shot I wanted, I’d already missed one opportunity.

Yesterday I set up a tripod in the garden, so I could take a few photos from the same place throughout the day, hoping that when it came to last night I’d have the images I needed to complete the big picture you hopefully see below (at the time of writing, I have yet to take the final photo)…

…Yay, I did it, this composite image is made up of five separate photos taken on the same spot across 12 hours.
