The Cosmic Photo Challenge: From the ground, up.

On By dalecooper57In nature photography23 Comments

Where did the weekend go? It seems like Friday was only yesterday, when I gave you the prompt for The Cosmic Photo Challenge this week; From the ground, up.

I took the literal route, with most of my photos taken at ground level, some using a wide angle, one with a timer.

Now let’s see what you’ve all been looking up to…

The Cosmic Photo Challenge: A summer walk in the sunshine.

On By dalecooper57In nature photography, photography14 Comments

Well, it’s Monday again, but at least here on The Cosmic Photo Challenge we have a weekend of sunny pictures to look back on, as the prompt was to take; A summer walk in the sunshine.

I chose to take my stroll in the woods at Venn Quarries, as it was really hot on Saturday and the dappled shade cast by the trees was a welcome relief from the early afternoon glare.

Here’s a small selection from all the photos I took, you can see the rest HERE

I like the fact I could only work out what was going on here, from the stone at the bottom of the picture.

How was your balmy weekend walk? Do share your pictures with us, it’s so easy to do…

The Cosmic Photo Challenge: Nature in black and white.

On By dalecooper57In photography11 Comments

On Friday I set you the task of finding images for this week’s Cosmic Photo Challenge which would satisfy the prompt; Nature in black and white.

I chose half a dozen shots from the ones I took on an early Saturday morning drive, in the countryside just outside Barnstaple.

Now it’s time to reveal your monochromatic masterpieces to the world, come on, don’t be shy…

The Cosmic Photo Challenge: Country landscapes.

On By dalecooper57In nature photography, photography15 Comments

Hello wherever you are and welcome to another Monday edition of The Cosmic Photo Challenge, which is brought to you this week by the prompt; Country landscapes.

As I was rudely awakened at 6am on Saturday, by our antisocial upstairs neighbours having one of their early morning screaming matches, I thought I may as well make the most of it. So I drove up onto Exmoor and captured the start of another glorious day in the Devon countryside.

How did your rural idyll develop? Show us what wonders you discovered and let us all enjoy them…

The Cosmic Photo Challenge: Public art.

On By dalecooper57In arts, nature photography, photography6 Comments

For your mission on The Cosmic Photo Challenge this week, I asked you to go in search of; Public art.

I gambled on the weather being nice on Sunday and was rewarded, after a drizzly start, with glorious sunshine in which to once again explore Broomhill Sculpture Gardens.

You may remember previous posts from this fantastical, artistical, woodland wonderland, to which I love to periodically return, watching it evolve. I can’t possibly fit all the photos I took yesterday in this post, so watch out for the full set on another blog not too far away, coming soon.

How did your art safari go at the weekend? Show us the results and share the love, it’s easy when you know how…

The Cosmic Photo Challenge: Three views from one spot.

On By dalecooper57In editing and effects, nature photography, photography14 Comments

Welcome to an Easter bank holiday edition of The Cosmic Photo Challenge, this week themed around my last minute prompt idea; Three views from one spot.

I chose to climb one particular hill overlooking Barnstaple to take my trio of pictures, as it currently has a bright yellow coating of rapeseed flowers. In fact I took two sets while I was up there, the first three of which make up one composite image.

This complete 360° view is created by carefully overlapping three panoramic shots, taken in different directions from the same vantage point.

The second set of three were taken further up the track towards that phone mast in the distance, once again all captured while standing on one spot.

Hmm, I wonder what happens when you take a panoramic shot vertically…

Was three the magic number for you this week? Let’s see what you came up with.

The Cosmic Photo Challenge: As the world warms up.

On By dalecooper57In photography10 Comments

Good morning, on this Monday’s edition of The Cosmic Photo Challenge, we’re having a photographic roundup of how it looks; As the world warms up.

I wasn’t (necessarily) looking for photos of impending climate catastrophe with this week’s theme, although you can, as always, spin the prompt however you like.

I was inspired simply by the weather brightening up over the weekend and, for a couple of hours each day at least, you could actually imagine you felt the promise of summer warmth on your face.

I took a drive up into the hills between Barnstaple and Bideford, the land of the wind turbines and solar farms, where I discovered what happens to that blades in a panoramic shot if it’s taken while the turbine is revolving…

Where did the sunshine take you over the last few days?

Come and join in, it’s so easy to do…

The Cosmic Photo Challenge: Art from nature.

On By dalecooper57In editing and effects, photography16 Comments

Yes, I’m afraid it’s Monday again, but don’t let the start of the week get you down, The Cosmic Photo Challenge is here to brighten your day.

This week the prompt gives free reign for your creative imagination to take flight, as we consider the possibilities of; Art from nature.

I chose the literal path and made three artistic images from recent photos, since the weather refused to cooperate with outdoor photographic pursuits over the weekend.

The first of two reimaginings of the Devon countryside is especially effective if you are viewing it on a phone or tablet, as it comprises multiple landscapes from different angles…

…and the second is a kind of photographic trompe l’oeil, combining elements of four different locations to create the illusion of a fifth.

Now let’s see your artistic contributions for the week, it’s easy, come and join in…

The Cosmic Photo Challenge: First hints of Spring.

On By dalecooper57In nature photography, photography10 Comments

Good morning, I hope you all had a lovely weekend and are as keen as I am to see what delights await us in this week’s edition of The Cosmic Photo Challenge.

I set the prompt with the vague idea of capturing some brightly nodding daffodils or maybe some wild flowers in the hedgerow, but I ended up going with more of a big picture view of; First hints of Spring.

Apart from the magnolia starting to bloom outside our house, these were all taken on the edge of Exmoor on Saturday afternoon, when you could actually feel warmth from the sunshine for a change.

How is springtime progressing in your part of the world, did you find something nice to show us..?

The Cosmic Photo Challenge: Cold and bright.

On By dalecooper57In nature photography, photography8 Comments

The weekend weather actually cooperated with my mission to take pictures for The Cosmic Photo Challenge yesterday, allowing me to take a bracing walk along the beach at Saunton Sands for the prompt; Cold and bright.

Where did your trip into the cold blue yonder take you this week?
