The Cosmic Photo Challenge: Abstract.

Hello there, it’s only two weeks until the holidays, but here at The Cosmic Photo Challenge we haven’t got festive yet, in fact we’re positively vague about the subject of today’s theme; Abstract.

That gave us almost unlimited scope for our photographic offerings this week and I spent a Zen-like couple of hours yesterday creating this abstract collage from strips I cropped from pictures of random objects around the house and other old photos.

Where did your artistic muse lead you this week..?

The Cosmic Photo Challenge: Art for art’s sake.

Well, hello there, how the devil are you all this fine autumn morning? Welcome to another splendiferous edition of The Cosmic Photo Challenge, which today concentrates its creative focus on images that are; Art for art’s sake.

You probably won’t be all that surprised to learn that I stuck with my chosen oeuvre and constructed some photo collages to meet this week’s brief.

I had two initial ideas; firstly to use a shot of the tubular steel rings in my interesting perspective post as concentric frames for three separate images; secondly to try and give the impression of the sea rushing out of an open doorway.

The first concept wasn’t a problem and I was very pleased with how that one came out. It contains 11 individual photos, all painstakingly placed, erased and blended by hand. However, I couldn’t find a suitable shot of a doorway for the second one and, due to my impatience and tendency to get sidetracked, I chose a photo of the pannier market to flood, instead. I believe that one is made from 9 carefully layered components. (Each composition took roughly two hours to complete)

Then on Saturday night, while looking for something completely unconnected, I stumbled upon a perfect candidate for my doorway idea, so I produced a third, bonus collage, which could even be the best of the lot, see what you think.

I think my favourite part of this one is the swan in the clouds
Those stalactites on the ceiling are actually only three inches long
A second appearance by Death (he’s also a stall holder in the market, above), along with my favourite ever bird photo

The Cosmic Photo Challenge: Halloween.

Hello and welcome to The Cosmic Photo Challenge, where this week we’re picturing all things; Halloween.

I have to admit I only chose the theme because I know a lot of people around the world celebrate the occasion, so I was relying on the efforts of my neighborhood to provide me with suitable subject matter.

However, when I went out searching for inspiration, not one house in the area had any decorations up, leaving me at a bit of a loss what to do.

So I created a couple of strange Halloween composite selfies, instead. (The “masks” are in fact the giant skull decoration and trick or treat bucket, below)

All Death’d up and nowhere to go
The Spirit Of Halloween is sad nobody is making an effort

Did you have more success finding some spooky images..?

The Cosmic Photo Challenge: Art for art’s sake.

Good morning, welcome to The Cosmic Photo Challenge, which this week is getting all artistic, with the prompt; Art for art’s sake.

I have once again gone for a collage piece, throwing an impromptu festival in my garden at the weekend.

Behold; “CosPhoChalstock”

What inspired creations do you have to share with us..?

The Cosmic Photo Challenge: Close up.

Hello there, welcome to The Cosmic Photo Challenge on another chilly Monday morning, which today is focussed on; Close up.

I started off taking random pictures around the house, then got carried away with editing and made a composite image using some ceramic ornaments, my tablet and an old sunrise photo.

What did you get close to this week..?

The Cosmic Photo Challenge: Unnatural patterns.

Good morning, welcome to Monday and The Cosmic Photo Challenge, which this week is gently prompted by the suggestion that you seek out; Unnatural patterns.

I was going to go out looking for man-made designs at the weekend, but in the end I kept my creative efforts inside, as it was grey, drizzly and freezing outdoors. I didn’t have anything specific in mind so I waited to see what would come to me.

Inspiration strikes in odd places and several of my shots were the result of me washing the dishes, another is one of Rhonda’s recently crocheted blankets and the string ceiling lampshade I’ve featured before was given a makeover with some surreal mucking about.

Now let’s see what results your search for design-inspired images produced…

The Cosmic Photo Challenge: 2023’s Greatest Clicks.

Hello and a very happy New Year to you all, welcome to the first post of 2024 on The Cosmic Photo Challenge, which today is inspired by the prompt; 2023’s Greatest Clicks.

Just the one picture from me this week…or two, or, well…I think I actually counted 35 in all.

Because of course I took the opportunity to do some mucking about, ending up with the longest photo mural I have created so far.

It started off with the photo on the left, of a sunrise over the yard at work, to which I added many new components and blended it with a different landscape. That was followed by six more composite panels, which I then stitched together to form this collection of the best skies of last year, along with some surreal additions.

Now, I’m aware the quality probably isn’t that great once you’ve zoomed in to see the detail, so here are the two halves at their original resolution.

What caught your eye as you perused your year’s archive? Showcase your favourites and blow your own trumpet to herald in the new year, it’s so easy to do…

The Cosmic Photo Challenge: Through an opening.

For The Cosmic Photo Challenge this week, we’re viewing our images; Through an opening.

While waiting for inspiration to strike, I noticed the heart-shaped openings in an oil burning candle holder in the living room. I thought they’d look good with more interesting views.

And I saw some very strange scenes through the opening of the shed doorway yesterday afternoon.

Now let’s see what flashes of inspiration informed your imagination over the weekend…

*edit: This was my original idea for the candle holder image.

The Cosmic Photo Challenge: Art for art’s sake.

Monday’s here and it’s back to work once more, but let’s take a moment to gaze upon the wonders brought to you by The Cosmic Photo Challenge and this week’s theme; Art for art’s sake.

For our semi-regular creative prompt today, I took this rather ordinary photo of the yard at work…

…and turned it into this surreal collage. There are 20 individual images in this one photo. I’m especially pleased with the reflections. ;~}

In what direction did the creative muse take you over the weekend?

The Cosmic Photo Challenge: The sky’s the limit.

Hello there, the very best of Mondays to you. Today on The Cosmic Photo Challenge we’re turning our attention upwards again, because this week; The sky’s the limit.

There are a lot of fabulously fluffy cloud formations around at the moment, which have combined rather nicely with a vapour trail in one of my shots. In fact it made such a nice shot, I used it for the cover art on my latest EP*, which you can check out by clicking on the photo in question, or at this link.

What did you see up in the great blue yonder at the weekend?

Speaking of new music, here’s another brand spanking new audio visual project I finished just yesterday. I couldn’t begin to guess what musical genre you’d fit this into, but I’ve called it Return Of The Malevolent Seven and it’s a bit of an epic.
