The Cosmic Photo Challenge: Up, down and sideways.

Monday already and time once again for The Cosmic Photo Challenge, which this week shifts its focus; Up, down and sideways.

My basic idea of standing on one spot and taking three photos from different angles became considerably more involved than anticipated, as I’d chosen the large road bridge across the river Taw as my subject and hadn’t taken town planning into account.

From where I parked, the only way to take photos from on top of the bridge and from underneath it required a walk of about two miles.

Looking down from the bridge into the empty estuary at low tide…

…looking up at it from the riverbank below

…and taking a sideways glance at the scenery on the way.

The Cosmic Photo Challenge: From an interesting angle.

Welcome to The Cosmic Photo Challenge, I hope you had an enjoyable weekend, mine seems to have flown by without me noticing.

A couple of weeks ago Audrey was decluttering her bedroom and I snagged a selfie stick she’d never used, because it might come in useful and who doesn’t want another gadget?

It would come in very useful, for instance, if you wanted to take photos; From an interesting angle, which just happens to be this week’s prompt.

So I went for a very pleasant walk around Rock Park in the winter sunshine and did a one man photo shoot.

{I will admit up front that at least one of the long exposures below was taken in the dark before dawn, not as night *fell* per se, but the spirit of the theme still holds…that’s my thinking, anyway}

I produced three artistic pieces for the prompt, one of which is by way of an update on how our wall-mounted golden pathos vine is doing.

It’s doing whatever it likes, is the short, uncooperative answer to that one.

The Cosmic Photo Challenge: One winter’s morning.

For today on The Cosmic Photo Challenge, I asked you to provide images to convey the prompt; One winter’s morning.

I was too late to capture the start of the day on Saturday, despite being up at 6 to take Rhonda to work, as I always avoid the morning rush at Tesco by doing the weekly shop on the way home. But the forecast for Sunday was dry and cold again, so I reckoned I could risk the wait.

Anyway, yesterday morning I watched the sky lighten and as soon as the first strands of orange clouds began to appear, I jumped in the car and drove out into the countryside around Landkey, just outside Barnstaple.

When I stopped the car the first time I saw this…

…and thought “Ohh, that’s quite impressive, I like that.”

Then, over the next ten minutes or so, this happened.

As they say; right place, right time.

The Cosmic Photo Challenge: The best of ’22.

Only two more prompts for The Cosmic Photo Challenge to go this year, so I thought it was time for us to review; The best of ’22.

So it’s time to blow our own trumpets, showcase our best bits, play favourites and glow with inner pride as we look back at some of the images we were especially pleased with over the last twelve months.

These could be photos you’ve already shared as part of the challenge, or maybe you’ve never taken part before and have hundreds to choose from!

Maybe you didn’t have room in previous challenges or you just have pictures from this year which deserve our attention, well then now’s your chance to shine.

My personal criteria for inclusion of my images in today’s post was more…esoteric, shall we say, in that mine were chosen as part of the creative process known technically as “mucking about”.

I took a chilly walk around the community woodland at Bratton Flemming, just outside Barnstaple yesterday, capturing the last of the autumn colours and enjoying the peace and quiet.

The Cosmic Photo Challenge: Art for art’s sake.

This week on The Cosmic Photo Challenge we’re getting creative, with the theme; Art for art’s sake.

My avantgarde extravaganza was inspired by this fern fossil we found in a slab of sandstone in the garden.

I’d recently managed to remove a larger section of the top layer of stone, revealing more of the pristine patterns beneath and this photo became the basis for a composition made up of (I think) 19 separate images.
