Hello, it’s Monday again and time to see what you brought to The Cosmic Photo Challenge show and tell session today
The uncomplicated theme this week is; Landscapes.
I’ve been on holiday for the last few days, camping in Wiltshire, where I visited the 19th century engineering marvel that is Caen Hill Locks; a stretch of canal with 29 locks, with a rise of 237 feet over two miles with a 1-in-44 gradient.
The first few photos fall broadly into the “landscape” category, showing as they do views across Salisbury plain in the distance, but I’ve also included some bonus shots of the hugely impressive locks themselves.

The amount of work it must have taken to create this giant waterway staircase really is quite awe-inspiring.

Now let’s see your views and vistas…

Fascinating! And yes, to think of the work with 19th century tools is amazing, as are these images.

I didn’t realize what locks looked like before. It must have taken quite a bit of time going through them but difficult to carry the cargo otherwise.

It is the only way for a canal to negotiate a slope and because the incline here is so steep, they have to be very close to each other. This is the steepest section, but the entire length of the fall is covered by 50 locks in all, which take over five hours to navigate.

While the locks are really intriguing I adore that first shot with those clouds, Dale.

Thank you, that’s taken over one of the storage ponds which are used to fill the locks when water levels are low
