Hi there, welcome to The Cosmic Photo Challenge, which this week has the theme; Three shots from one spot.
I have two groups of three, all taken at Rotherfield Carnival over the weekend, capturing the procession and some long exposures of fireworks.

Now it’s time to see what your triplets look like…

I especially liked the sequence of shots of the procession with all those torches burning.

Thank you, Frank, our torchlight carnival processions have been traditional for many years.

The carnival season begins at the start of September and each town and village hold theirs weekly, allowing the surrounding societies to attend as many as possible

I think we have a different definition of carnival. 😀

I know the Americans refer to fairgrounds as carnivals, but here they’ve always been a procession with dressed up walkers from the various bonfire and carnival societies, sometimes also featuring motorised floats. There’s almost always a huge bonfire and firework display at the end.

Carnival in Germany is more narrowly defined: it the fifth season, starting on 11 November, going into hiatus for Advent and Christmas and then slowly gain traction after the New Year to carnival proper: Dirty Thursday, Rose Monday, Greasy Tuesday (Mardi Gras), and being finished on Ash Wednesday.

It’s the best day of carnival. It’s the day when the women of the town go to the town hall and turn out the mayor and the councellors and take over the government for a day. In some towns this is still practiced each year. But everywhere else where carnival is celebrated men do not dare to wear ties on this day because women can (and will) cut them off with impunity.
